Rediscovering the civic and achieving better outcomes in public policy
The Institute for Political and Economic Governance at the University of Manchester is working with the University of Southampton on a research programme 'Rediscovering the Civic and Achieving Better Outcomes in Public Policy'. It is an ESRC Ventures project on how we can increase civic behaviour, which is very timely because of the government's objective to increase citizens' voices in the Empowerment White Paper, published in July 2008. Our aim is to investigate the most effective ways to encourage active citizenship.
Latest from the project
- Our end of project event will be on 23 June 2010 1pm - 3pm at One Whitehall Place/ Royal Horseguards Hotel, Whitehall, London - more details in the News section
- The On-line deliberation involving 6000 internet users was completed in February 2009
- We have some new experiments taking place - one at Southampton, and two in Manchester including a pledging experiment and one around Citizens Interest Groups
